Benefits of Massage
When our bodies are used in exercise (or carry
a lot of tension) they
require an increased supply of oxygen and nutrients. The body
needs time to rebuild and recover after periods of activity or
tension.
Let's see...
activity and tension, sounds like a normal day to most people
in today's world.
Massage deals with manipulating the soft tissue, increasing circulation.
Circulation carries oxygen and nutrients to the muscles
and organs
and carries waste products
away. Some benefits
of massage include shortening recovery time from muscular strain,
increased circulation without increased heart load, stretching
of ligaments
and tendons, skin stimulation and soothing of the nervous system.
Massage reduces stress, both emotional and physical, and is suggested
as part of a regular program for stress management. Factor in the
need the body has for touch, and how the senses can be refreshed
from
an hour's respite from the daily rush and you can begin to see
that taking the time for massage might be good for most people.
Does this all mean that massage is good for everyone? No, there
are times when massage is not good for you. If you feel like you're coming down with something or if you're running a fever, don't get massage. Some medical conditions
preclude massage or at least require a doctor's permission and direction
for the massage to do the most good. So, if in doubt, consult your
physician. |
