Massage Therapy

Most clients are in need of therapeutic massage during which major muscle groups and joints are worked and relaxed, with attention paid to any problem areas.

I've also trained in the following specialties, which you can request when making an appointment. Often a massage utilizes a combination of many techniques to achieve a successful result but feel free to ask questions about any technique (a brief explanation of each of these techniques can be seen by clicking on the names below):

Swedish/ Relaxation Massage
Deep Tissue Massage
Sports Massage
Hot Stone Massage
Pregnancy & Infant Massage
Cranio Sacral Therapy

Myofasical Release
Trigger Point Therapy
Reconnective Healing
Push Therapy
Scalp or Foot Massage

Myofascial release refers to the manual massage technique for stretching the fascia and releasing bonds between fascia and integument, muscles, and bones, with the goal of eliminating pain, increasing range of motion and balancing the body. Fascia is located between the skin and the underlying structure of muscle and bone, it is a seamless web of connective tissue that covers and connects the muscles, organs, and skeletal structures in our body. Muscle and fascia are united forming the myofascia system.

Injuries, stress, inflammation, trauma, and poor posture can cause restriction to fascia. Since fascia is an interconnected web, the restriction or tightness to fascia at a place, with time can spread to other places in the body like a pull in a sweater. The goal of myofascial release is to release fascia restriction and restore its tissue health. (back to top)

Trigger Point Therapy a type of NeuroMuscular Therapy and part of Myofascial Release)
- Trigger point therapy is a bodywork technique that involves the application of pressure to tender muscle tissue in order to relieve pain and dysfunction in other parts of the body. It may also be called myofascial (myo meaning muscle, fascial meaning connective tissue) trigger point therapy. Trigger point therapy is sometimes regarded as one of a group of treatment approaches called neuromuscular therapy or NMT.

Reconnective Healing- Reconnective Healing is a form of energy work developed by Dr. Eric Pearl, a doctor of chiropractic. This work is done by working without touching a clothed client. The frequency of this healing energy is intended to bring a body back into balance- physically and emotionally. It works in a similar way to some of the more ancient energy techniques, but is considered a more comprehensive modality. (www.TheReconnection.com) (back to top)

Push Therapy- a very deep technique that has proven very effective for some with muscles which are chronically contracted and painful. Developed by Michael Takatsuno, in California, over the past 11 years, this muscle therapy can release contracted and rigid muscles and return those who are suffering to a healthier, pain-free state. Scalp or Foot Massage- If a full body massage doesn't sound good to you, or you're looking for a way to try out massage, you might consider a half hour scalp or foot massage. Scalp massage includes neck and can include face, if desired, and is done with no oil or lotion. Foot massage is done with oil or lotion. (back to top)
