Pregnancy and Infant Massage
Pregnancy Massage- Massage during pregnancy is therapeutic bodywork which focuses on the special needs of the mother-to-be as her body goes through the dramatic changes of the childbirth experience. It is a fast-growing field in the United States that requires special certification of the massage therapist.
You should always inform your massage therapist if you are pregnant and you should check with your doctor before scheduling massage. Massage is often not recommended during the first trimester of pregnancy. As your pregnancy advances, massage is performed in a side-lying position using a body pillow placed as the mother wishes. Any woman experiencing any complications in her pregnancy should get written consent for massage from her obstetrician.
Pregnancy massage (as all therapeutic massages) costs 1 hour for $50, 1/2 hour for $35.
Infant Massage- Infant massage is really infant massage class. The parent/ parents perform the massage under instruction from the therapist. Infant massage is healthy for parent, for child and for the bonds between the two. Parents take with them massage skills that they can use as needed in their home. If you are in doubt about whether massage is good for your child, check with your obstetrician. |
