Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is a hands on technique for relaxation and healing developed in the early 1900's by Mikao Usui in Japan. It is a technique that is passed from Master to student. Anyone can learn to do reiki. It can be practiced on oneself or others.

Reiki is all about energy. If one person's energy is weak, another can pass energy along to the weaker one to help. There is comfort in the sharing of the energy and in the quiet contact that takes place in the process. If it sounds strange to you, think about how mom might have held your sore knee for you to make it all better. Reiki is a bit more sophisticated but similar in function and intent. Reiki is done with the clothed patient seated or lying down.

Reiki (as well as massage) is not a substitute for medical treatment. Both are aimed at helping the body get to place where healing can occur. I did a lot of work with women undergoing chemotherapy while in Colorado. The reiki helped them relax and recover more quickly between chemo sessions. Reiki is especially effective before or after surgery to aid the healing process.

I've been practicing reiki since 1998. I began study in Colorado with Lisa Guyman. I completed the Third Degree training under Jan Hauenstein in 2002 and was certified as a Reiki Master and teacher.

A reiki treatment costs $50 per hour and $35 per 30 minutes.

There are Reiki classes available. I'm taking a break from teaching in the summer but will begin classes again in the fall. Let me know if you want to be notified of upcoming classes.
